An official told a parliamentary panel on Wednesday that electric supply to Karachi might be shut down if the federal government did not pay subsidy to K-Electric (KE), a private company that supplies power to Pakistan’s economic hub.
“The national government gives an endowment of Rs10 to Rs20 per unit to K-Electric to keep up with the levy differential,” the power secretary during a gathering of the survey and execution panel of the Public Records Board of trustees (PAC).
He said the K-Electric would need to quickly be taken care of its levy contrast endowment. The authority said the Public Transmission and Despatch Organization (NTDC) needed to pay Rs20 billion as markup to K-Electric. He said this sum had now expanded to Rs150 billion.
The secretary let the panel know that the central government gave a sponsorship of Rs10 to Rs20 per unit to K-Electric to keep up with the levy differential. “The central government had not paid a measure of Rs150 billion to K-Electric,” he said.
He said a board headed by Pakistan Muslim Association Nawaz (PML-N) pioneer Shahid Khaqan Abbasi is attempting to figure out the issue and ideally will determine it toward June’s end.
